Summary
For this 2024 update of the guidelines ‘Catheterisation - Urethral Intermittent in Adults’ (2013), a broad and comprehensive literature searches covering the whole subject was conducted. All records identified from the searches were screened according to the predefined eligibility criteria. New and relevant evidence were appraised through a structured assessment. 112 new references were included in the text. Following the new evidence, all recommendations were assessed and rephrased when unclear. This reduced the number of recommendations from 78 to 57. Likewise, the whole document has been carefully reviewed and ambiguous text has been revised.

Specific changes include:
6.0 - Complications. The section has been updated with clear definitions.
7.0 - Updated the catheter material, included new catheter designs and removed help devices that were not available anymore.
14.0 - Patient perspective/experience with intermittent catheterisation. The section is new and covers the patient perspective and which barriers and facilitators patients experience when integrating intermittent catheterisation in their everyday life.
